TOWNS
The Rhine has always been one of Europe's major arteries, rising in the Swiss Alps, and flowing majestically to the North Sea. River traffic is constant and varied with enormous industrial barges, pleasure craft and the big river cruisers. On its banks are delightful vineyards and medieval castles built on crags. The towns and villages along the route are full of charm and make great centres for our language and geography courses.
Groups can visit St. Goarshausen, a romantic little town with its winegrowing culture forms the centre-piece of the Loreley Castle route at the foot of the legendary "Loreley". The old town centre is truly idyllic with two city towers and the remains of the old city walls. St. Goarshausen is at the crossing point to get from one side of the Rhine to the other.
Surrounded by vineyards, Boppard is one of the most pleasant Rhineland towns with a history since Roman times. The chair lift allows fantastic panoramas of the valley. Boppard's famous waterfront terrace, with its many excellent cafés, pubs and music bars form the heart of this resort. Its pedestrianised centre, makes an ideal base for schools.
