Edinburgh is the second largest city in Scotland and the seventh-most populous in the United Kingdom. It is the seat of the Scottish Parliament. The city was one of the major centres of the Enlightenment, led by the University of Edinburgh, earning it the nickname Athens of the North. The city attracts 1 million overseas visitors a year, making it the second most visited tourist destination in the United Kingdom, after London.
Edinburgh can provide school pupils with a great educational experience of our British Heritage (see right for details) including the Scott Monument which was built to commemorate Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotland's greatest novelists. Scott's novels include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, the Heart of Midlothian and Waverley. The Monument is 200 feet and 6 inches (61.1metres) high, with 287 steps to the top. The climb through the internal stairways is in four stages, with 360 degree viewing galleries on each level. The galleries provide unrivalled panoramic views of Edinburgh's historic Old and New Towns.
Equity can also offer tours to: York, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Newquay, Cornwall, London and Liverpool. Please enquire for details
