Art & Design School & College Tours to China

China’s links to the western world have been growing steadily and they have highlighted the relevance of its own extremely rich culture and influence in western culture.  Art & Design students will be able to discover centuries of artistic heritage with key visits to the Silk Mill in Sozhou to learn about how to process silk, the Embroidery Institute and enjoy a Calligraphy demonstration in Xian.  You will also visit many of China’s main sights such as the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, making a study trip to remember!

  • The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art - Features Chinese contemporary art and international exhibitions. (BEIJING)
  • National Art Museum of China (NAMOC)- is a national museum dedicated to the collection, research and exhibitions of modern and contemporary artistic works in China (BEIJING)
  • Beijing Opera - The national opera of China, the accompanying music is fascinating and artistic.(BEIJING)
  • Caligraphy Demonstration - A demonstration of this fascinating traditional Chinese art form. (XIAN)
  • Silk Mill - See the process of silk production in Suzhou (SUZHOU)
  • Embroidery Institute - see some of the best embroidery in China (SUZHOU)
Curriculum Focus
  • Opportunities to compare and contrast a range of artistic works in a number of galleries and museums in the city
  • Provides ample opportunity to acquire general knowledge of historical, social and cultural contexts for paintings, sculpture and architecture
  • Develop an understanding of the relationships between society and art within historical and other frameworks
  • Learn some of the city’s history and culture that have provided the context for much of the artistic works
