Classics & Archaelogy Excursions

  • Acropolis- It is the most significant reference point of ancient Greek culture, as well as the symbol of the city of Athens itself as it represents the apogee of artistic development in the 5th century BC.
  • Parthenon - The Parthenon is a temple of the Greek goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their protector.
  • The Erechteon - Erechtheion was built to accommodate the religious rituals that the old temple housed.
  • The Temple of Athena - Was the earliest Ionic temple on the Acropolis, compensated by its prominent position on a steep bastion at the south west corner of the Acropolis.
  • Corinth - The site of ancient Corinth was first inhabited in the Neolithic period (5000-3000 BC), and flourished as a major Greek city from the 8th century BC until its destruction by the Romans in 146 BC.
  • Mycenae - Mycenae was the center of power in the Late Bronze age (1600-1100 BCE), and the excavated ruins that sculpt the top of the rocky hill protected the royal families inside the famous Cyclopean walls.
  • Epidaurus - The sanctuary of Asclepios at Epidaurus is an incredible spiritual place. The ancient Greeks would travel far to pay tribute to their spiritual entities in the face of Asclepios, and to ask the gods for remedies for their physical ailments
  • Olympia - A sanctuary of ancient Greece in Elis, is known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times
  • Sparta - Sparta or Lacedaemon, was a prominent city-state in ancient Greece
  • Mystras - Mystras was a fortified town in Morea (the medieval Peloponnese), on Mt. Taygetos, near ancient Sparta.
