The Bay of Naples has had a long and eventful history and has a wealth of archaeological and cultural heritage. Its ideal location allows for an extraordinary combination of classical history visits. The Circumvesuviana railway links Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vico Equense and Sorrento and ferries operate from Sorrento to Capri and Ischia. Groups will be overwhelmed with the wide range of educational visits that will ensure that a study trip to the Bay of Naples will not be forgotten.
Classics & Archaelogy Excursions
- Pompeii - An entire Roman city buried in an eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. Excavations have revealed complete streets, shops, villas and exquisite paintings.
- Herculaneum - Once a busy fishing port and resort until it too was destroyed by Vesuvius' eruption. Of particular interest are the timber structures that were preserved in the mud.
- National Archeological Museum Naples - A collection of artefacts found in Pompeii and Herculaneum. One of the best collections of Greco- Roman antiquities in the world.
- Roman Villa of Oplontis - The sumptuous villa belonged to Poppea, wife of Nero.
- Paestum - One of Italy's most important Archeological sites, see the well-preserved Doric temples and ruins.
