Geography School & College Tours to the Bay of Naples

The Bay of Naples’ breathtaking scenery offers an ideal opportunity for geography groups to study the region’s mountain cliffs and rugged landscape. This is also a fantastic location to study volcanology as this region is home to Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe. The Circumvesuviana railway links Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vico Equense and Sorrento offering an array of visits to many small towns and villages where students will gain an insight to Southern Italy’s community and culture.

Geography Excursions

  • Vesuvius - One of the few active volcanoes in Europe. Climb to the rim of Mount Vesuvius (entrance fee payable) and discover the magnificent views over the Bay of Naples.
  • Capri - Rugged landscape covered in luxurious vegetation. You can take a chairlift to Anacapri, the highest point on the island.
  • Naples - The third largest city in Italy and an important port. The world famous Archeological museum houses many relics, statues and paintings rescued from Pompeii.
  • Campi Flegrei- Located north west of Naples, this volcano is an extraordinary experience for keen geographers. in the Campi, you will find Solfatara, the crater of an extinct volcano, which still emits jets of steam with sulphurous fumes.
  • Pompeii - An entire Roman city buried in an eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. Excavations have revealed complete streets, shops, villas and exquisite paintings.
