Classics & Archaelogy School & College Tours to Rome & the Bay of Naples
Make the most of your Classical Italian Tour and combine visits to both Rome and the Bay of Naples. Your tour will begin in Rome, where your group will discover and study the city’s many archaeological treasures originating from the ancient Roman Empire including iconic sights such as the Forum and the Colosseum. You will travel to the Bay of Naples, where the Circumvesuviana railway will take you along the region’s main sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Sorrento. With such a wealth of classical visits, a trip to Rome and the Bay of Naples will be truly inspiring and educational.
Classics & Archaelogy Excursions
Rome
- Castel Sant'Angelo - Built in AD 135 as the Mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian and his family. Passageways link the fortress to the Vatican Palaces.
- Roman Forum - Where you can see 12 centuries of Roman history. It was the centre of commerce, politics and religion.
- Palatine Hill - Site of the original Roman settlement. Emperor Augustus lived here in the Imperial Palace. You can also see the 16th Century Farnase Gardens.
- Colosseum - Commissioned by Emperor Vespasian in AD 72. The size of the structure and the cruelty of the games made it Rome's greatest building.
- Pantheon - Originally built as a temple and later converted to a church. Renaissance architects used it for inspiration.
Bay of Naples
- Pompeii - An entire Roman city buried in an eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. Excavations have revealed complete streets, shops, villas and exquisite paintings.
- Herculaneum - Once a busy fishing port and resort until it too was destroyed by Vesuvius' eruption. Of particular interest are the timber structures that were preserved in the mud.
- National Archeological Museum Naples - A collection of artefacts found in Pompeii and Herculaneum. One of the best collections of Greco- Roman antiquities in the world.
- Roman Villa of Oplontis - The sumptuous villa belonged to Poppea, wife of Nero.
- Paestum - One of Italy's most important Archeological sites, see the well-preserved Doric temples and ruins.
