Geography School & College Tours to Malta

Visit the low and rocky archipelago of Malta and discover the secrets of this tiny but incredibly varied and nature-rich country. Malta’s main island is made of a contrast between the rugged rock and limestone against the blue coastline. The island of Gozo has a greener feel due to its water-retaining blue clay subsoil offering a perfect opportunity for students to compare the two landscapes. The Maltese archipelago has a wealth of geography field trip excursions such as the striking Blue Grotto and Azur window, the Ghadira nature reserve and the Blue Lagoon to name just a few. Malta’s incredible scenery and geography richness makes this collection of islands a perfect destination for school groups.

Geography Excursions

  • Argotti Botanical Gardens - Situated in Floriana, the Argotti Gardens were laid out in the 18th century as a private garden belonging to Grand Master Pinto. The gardens became botanical a century later, with a rich collection of trees and shrubs from oaks to oleanders and potted plants, especially cacti. The gardens also hold a variety of water features – fountains, ponds and water towers
  • Buskett Gardens - Heavily wooded with native, hardy species such as Mediterranean pines, Buskett Gardens was created by Grand Master Lascaris. The gardens also hold vineyards, orangeries, olive and lemon groves
  • Gardjola Gardens - The gardens hold the panoramic view that includes the docks in Marsa, Valletta, the entrance to the Grand Harbour and Fort St. Angelo
  • Għadira Nature Reserve - The Ghadira Nature Reserve covers an area of about six hectares and occupies the floodplain between two ridges. It lies some 100 metres from Mellieha Bay's sandy beach. More than 200 species of birds have been recorded at the reserve and many winter here. Visitors are guided by BirdLife Malta volunteers along the nature path
  • Blue Grotto - This natural picturesque grotto and its neighbouring system of caverns mirrors the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora
  • Azur Window - The Azure Window is another spectacular natural landmark in Dwejra, along with The Inland Sea and Fungus Rock. The Azure Window at the end of the cliff, is a giant doorway, through which one can admire the blue expanse beyond the cliff
  • Inland Sea - The Inland Sea is an inland lagoon in Dwejra, and is perhaps the archipelago's most spectacular natural landmark. The Inland Sea, and Dwejra Bay itself, were created millions of years ago when two limestone caves collapsed
  • Dingli Cliffs - Dingli Cliffs are an impressive sight, especially if view them from sea level on an island cruise. They are the Island's natural fortress, one bastion the Knights did not have to build to protect themselves
