Andalucia’s vast landscape and incredible cities are an ideal destination for school groups to explore Spain’s history. Andalucia has a rich ancient history originating with the Phoenicians in 1100BC and the region has with a wealth of ancient remains from the Roman Empire’s occupation and the Moorish invasion. With such a wide range of historical visits and excursions, Andalucia is a fascinating place to study the different stages of Spanish history through unification and exploration.

History Excursions

  • Alhambra & Generalife, Granada - One of the most famous monuments in Andalucía, this beautiful Moorish palace is an essential visit.
  • Alcazar, Seville - “Alcázar” is the term used for a Muslim-era fortress.  Used by Muslim and Christian royalty for many centuries.
  • Mezquita, Córdoba - Built when Córdoba was one of the most important cities in Europe, the highlights are the famous pillars and horseshoe arches.  
  • Córdoba - Established in 719; it became the capital of the Moorish Kingdom Al-Andalus, at which time, work began on the Great Mosque 'Mesquita'. La Juderia is a labyrinth of winding streets filled with courtyards and picturesque squares.
  • Malaga - One of the oldest Mediterranean ports founded by the Phoenicians. There are Roman ruins; the 14th Century ramparts; El Palo, the former fishermen's quarter, famed for
    fish restaurants; Picassos' birthplace (now an excellent museum dedicated to the artist).
