Geography Study Courses to Iceland & Germany

Equity School Travel has two Geography Study Courses to Germany (Rhineland) and Iceland which aim to enhance student's knowledge and understanding of key geographic concepts.

Priciple Aims for our Geography Study Courses:

  • Stimulate an interest in Geography through a choice of case studies
  • Develop the basic skills of primary data collection and interpretation needed for Geography courses
  • Facilitate comparisons between geographical case studies from Germany with similar ones in the UK some of which can be developed into KS4 individual studies
  • Enhance pupil knowledge and understanding of key geographical concepts
  • Provoke discussion and evaluation of some standard textbook theories

Iceland Geography Course

Our Icelandic Geography Course is based in Reykjavik.  This fascinating tour is a must for all geographers. See the effects of plate tectonics on the Mid Atlantic Rift, bathe in the Blue Lagoon surrounded by the lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula and visit the Geysir area.

Itinerary

Day 1 Fly from London to Keflavik Airport. Transfer to your Youth Hostel/Hotel for evening meal (first included meal).

Day 2 Meet your guide and drive to Hellsheidi Power Plant, Geysir, Gulfoss and Pingvellir National Park.

Day 3 Full day excursion to the Reykjanes Peninsula and Blue Lagoon.

Day 4 Full day excursion to South Shore, Seljalandfoss, Skogar, Hyrdalsjokull, Vik and Dyrholaey.

Day 5 Transfer from your hostel/hotel to Keflavik airport for return flight to London.

Germany Geography Course

Our German Geography Course is based in The Rhine. This area has always been one of Europe’s major arteries, rising in the Swiss Alps, and flowing majestically to the North Sea. River traffic is constant and varied with enormous industrial barges, pleasure craft and the big river cruisers. On its banks are delightful  vineyards and medieval castles built on crags. The towns and villages along the route are full of charm and make great centres for our language and geography courses.

Itinerary

Day 1 Morning departure from school for your Dover-Calais ferry crossing. Continue to hotel for evening meal (first meal). Travelling time from Calais to resort is approximately 7 hours.

Day 2 Coach to Rudesheim where students can undertake surveys to established the appeal of the town as a tourist "honeypot". Afternoon cruise along the Rhine to record barge traffic and the importance of the river to European trade.

Day 3 Visit to see the extint volcanic features of the Vulkanpark near Koblenz. Afternoon visit to Koblenz with town trails, questionnaires and maps to enable students to collect data on the inhabitants shopping habits and what influences the city.

Day 4 Walk over the hill from Bad Salzig to Boppard (approx 2 hours) so students can look at the scenery and land use. Take the cable car from Boppard for a view over the east bank of the Rhine.

Day 5 Travel to Calais with packed lunches for your return ferry.
