Second World War Study Course to The D-Day Landing Beaches

On the 6th June 1944, one of the most important events in history occurred only a few miles from the south coast of England. After 5 years of total war, an Anglo-American armada crossed the English Channel and landed in Normandy. The invasion force then began the immense task of the liberation of the Western Europe from Nazi tyranny. Northern France was liberated by the end of August 1944. The troops then regrouped driving into Germany where they met Soviet forces coming from the East bringing Nazi Reich to the end.

The itinerary follows the events as they unfolded, mostly from a British perspective, being focused on the beaches of Sword, Juno and Gold, but the American landings on Omaha and Utah beaches are also covered. Our tour includes Bayeux, with its monumental tapestry providing a poignant and apposite reminder of the reverse Norman invasion, in 1066.
