Aachen Christmas Markets
With approximately 125 stalls on the squares and streets surrounding the Cathedral and Town Hall the area is transformed into a stunning Christmas City. Germany’s closest Christmas market to the UK, Aachen is best known for Aachen Printen, a kind of ginger bread, potato fritters and marzipan bread.
The Aachen Cathedral is a 'must see' attraction and looks even more spectacular during the Christmas festivities. In addition, Suermondt Ludwig Museum and Couven Museum are popular excursions for school groups.

As well as the Christmas markets, the city has so much more to offer and is bursting with culture, history and beauty. The museums, galleries and monuments are impressive whilst being thought-provoking and interesting, ensuring your students leave this city inspired by what they have seen.

Widely regarded as one of the best Christmas Markets, Cologne features multiple markets all within walking distance of each other. Browse the wooden huts filled with treasures and mouthwatering treats in front of the stunning cathedral or go ice-skating at the market beside the Rhine River.
Enjoy the aroma of hot chestnuts, gingerbread and mulled wine as you watch glassblowers perform their art and wreath binders create stunning arrangements. With the Lindt factory also in the centre of town enjoy learning how chocolate is made!

Featuring around 80 stalls this is the biggest Christmas Market in Northern France. Place Rihour comes alive and transforms into a spectacular winter wonderland selling local produce and crafts and featuring a majestic big wheel that rotates to the sound of Christmas music and gets you into the holiday spirit!
Other attractions that are excellent for a school trip to the Christmas markets are Lille Cathedral, Palais des Beaux Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts.

With various stalls selling everything from mouth-watering treats to Christmas goodies, crafts and gifts you will find everything you need here to get ready for the holidays! La Défense even boasts an outdoor ice rink at this time of year.

One of the quirkiest Christmas Markets in the world; Valkenburg’s Christmas Markets are situated in the municipal caves of Valkenburg aan de Geul and are considered to be the largest and oldest underground Christmas Markets in Europe.
During ‘Christmastown Valkenburg’ choirs, bands and music groups will play and sing on a stage in the centre of Valkenburg. From visiting Santa in the Velvet Cave, to viewing the impressive mural paintings, sculptures, and the unique 18th century chapel; there really is something for everyone!
