Equity School travel to Krakow

School trips to Krakow & Auschwitz

Krakow in Poland is a vibrant city that has overcome adversity to become a thriving cultural hub. The cobblestone streets, rich history and friendly locals make Krakow a ‘must visit’ destination for your next school trip. On your school trip to Krakow, explore Europe’s biggest medieval town square and the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Old Town, or head out of the city and visit the jaw dropping Wieliczka Salt Mine which houses a collection of salt-rock statues and an underground cathedral.

The obvious choice for a history trip, many school groups studying WW2 and the rise of Nazi Germany use Krakow as a base when visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. This thought-provoking trip allows students to pay tribute to the estimated 1.1 million who lost their lives at this formidable death camp and uncover more about Jewish life in Krakow by visiting Kazimierz, Schindler’s Factory and the Jewish Museum.

Even though Krakow and this area of Poland holds a dark past, there are so many cultural and fun-filled excursions to lighten the mood – from the extravagant Wawel Castle to the festive Christmas markets and spooky ghost walking tours, Krakow will hold a special place in your student’s memories for many years to come.

    Why choose Krakow?

  • It is easy to get around – you can stroll around the city taking it all in rather than having to use transport
  • Beautiful and unique city
  • Rich history

Kazimierz Walking Tour

Kazimierz was the historical centre of Krakow’s Jewish religious and social life and was incorporated into Krakow in the 18th century. The tour takes you to the most important monuments in this area including the Old Synagogue, the Remuh Synagogue and Remuh Cemetery.

A truly emotive and thought-provoking visit, serving as a poignant reminder of the horrors of Hitler’s tyranny. Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps. It’s estimated over 1.1million men, women and children lost their lives here. The museum and memorial provide a wealth of information on the Holocaust, where students can gain an in-depth understanding of the prisoners held here and what went on behind the ominous gates.

Schindler's Factory

Schindler’s Factory is one of the most historically important buildings in Krakow. This former factory was owned by Oskar Schindler, which was a place of work for many Jews from the nearby ghetto during the Nazi occupation. When the ghetto was liquidated, Schindler managed to persuade Nazi officials to transfer them to Plaszow labor camp, saving them from being sent to the death camps. Now a museum, students can learn about the life of Schindler, what happened at the factory and life during the Nazi occupation of Poland.

Wieliczka Salt Mine

A visit to this incredible UNESCO World Heritage site is one your students will never forget. Discover the wonders of this centuries old mine, including an underground cathedral carved out of the rock! This is one of Poland's most popular attractions and of great historic and cultural importance.

Jewish Museum

Housed in a renaissance synagogue this museum is a rich collection of Judaica dedicated to Jewish heritage and is one of the best in Central Europe.

Krakow folklore evening

Folklore is deep rooted in Polish culture and history, so no trip to Krakow is complete without experiencing it firsthand. Soak up an evening of Polish folklore, with authentic food, live music and dancers dressed in traditional costumes.

Wawel Royal Castle

Towering over the city of Krakow, Wawel Royal Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located at the top of Wawel Hill. Made up of predominantly Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance architecture, dating back to the 14th century, Wawel Castle is the crown jewel of Krakow.
