A truly emotive and thought-provoking visit, serving as a poignant reminder of the horrors of Hitler’s tyranny. Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps. It’s estimated over 1.1million men, women and children lost their lives here. The museum and memorial provide a wealth of information on the Holocaust, where students can gain an in-depth understanding of the prisoners held here and what went on behind the ominous gates.
Schindler’s Factory is one of the most historically important buildings in Krakow. This former factory was owned by Oskar Schindler, which was a place of work for many Jews from the nearby ghetto during the Nazi occupation. When the ghetto was liquidated, Schindler managed to persuade Nazi officials to transfer them to Plaszow labor camp, saving them from being sent to the death camps. Now a museum, students can learn about the life of Schindler, what happened at the factory and life during the Nazi occupation of Poland.
