Equity School travel to Amsterdam

School Trips to Amsterdam

Cutesy houseboats, tall gabled town houses and pretty, tree-lined canals give Amsterdam a small-town appeal, but its laid back demeanour belies a distinctly cutting edge, which makes it an ideal destination for a school trip. Not just a centre for prestigious museum collections and diverse business, it's also home to a cosmopolitan, creative community and one of the greatest orchestras in the world.

You can get round the city easily on foot, canal, or more famously by bike, and there's an astonishing array of educational things to do. Drop into the Anne Frank Museum, which is in the house where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary while hiding in occupied Holland; take a trip to the Van Gogh Museum, which houses over 700 pieces of his work, including those glorious Sunflowers; or sit back and relax on a canal cruise. We’d highly recommend a school trip to Amsterdam for History, Performing Arts, Music and Art & Design students. This Dutch city really does have it all.

recommended educational trips for Amsterdam

Anne Frank’s House

Visit the house of Anne Frank, a Jewish girl who had to go into hiding during The Second World War to escape the Nazis. Anne’s famous diary ‘The Secret Annex’, she kept whilst in hiding at Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, can also be seen on display.

Van Gogh Museum

A visit to the Van Gogh Museum is a unique experience. The museum contains the largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the world. It provides students with the opportunity to understand the progression of the artist's work and compare his paintings to works by other artists from the 19th century.

Floating Flower Market

Amsterdam’s floating flower market is the only one of its kind in the world, and one of the most fragrant places of interest of Amsterdam - in all seasons. The flower stalls stand on the houseboats along Amsterdam’s famous canal.

Canal Cruise

Amsterdam boasts more than one hundred kilometres of canals – one of the best ways to experience the city is from the water, taking in many of the city’s sights.

Dutch National Opera and Ballet Tour

Take a look behind the scenes of the National Opera and Ballet, visiting the auditorium, the dance studios and production house for sets and costumes.

Concertgebouw Tour

Built in 1881, this impressive building is home to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The guided tour will take you backstage to discover parts of the building that would otherwise remain hidden and you will hear stories of the concert hall’s rich history.

EYE Film Museum

Located in an eye-catching modern building on the waterfront to the north of the city, the museum holds special exhibitions and film screenings relating to Dutch and worldwide film. Educational workshops and tours are also available.

Learn about Dutch art and history at the Rijksmuseum, located at the Museum Square in Amsterdam. Showcasing works of art and historical pieces from the Middle Ages to the 21st Century, the Rijksmuseum allows your students to dive right into Dutch culture. Famous artworks housed at this museum include The Night Watch by Rembrandt, The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer and The Threatened Swan by Jan Asselijn.

Rembrandt House Museum

Located close to the Chinatown district of Amsterdam you will find the remarkable Rembrandt House Museum. At the former house and museum of the artist; Rembrandt, uncover more about the unknown aspects of Rembrandt’s life and get up close to some of his most famed self-portraits.

Stedelijk Museum

The Stedelijk Museum is Amsterdam’s museum of modern art. Explore over 150 years of contemporary art by well known artists including Pablo Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol and Barnett Newman Cathedra.

Thank you very much to Nicholas again for organising such lovely venues for our choir - they were both very well attended, and we were well looked after by our hosts at both venues.

- Gunnersbury School Choir, Concert Tour to Amsterdam

Thank you so much for all your hard work organising last weekend - it was phenomenal and the level of organisation and efficiency (on your part, not necessarily on ours!) was very impressive.
