Geography school trips to Tenerife

Geography school trips to Tenerife

The largest Canary Island, Tenerife’s volcanic landscapes, rocky shores and sandy beach resorts create exciting opportunities for in-depth Geography studies. Through hands-on fieldwork, groups can better understand the island’s contrasting landscapes and investigate the reasons behind its arid and Mediterranean ecosystems. A highlight is the cable car ride to the summit of Mount Teide, allowing you to survey the island’s dramatic lava fields. To extend your group’s understanding of tectonics further, experience Tenerife’s sulphurous vents, venture down underground lava tubes, and ask your students how dormant the island really is. Add another dimension to tectonic studies by investigating the use of volcanic resources, then explore the importance of sustainable development, examine coastal processes along 800m sea cliffs, or explore food security and farming in the island’s interior. Through an understanding of geography and the environment, students will be able to learn more about the impacts to this area with a Geography trip to Tenerife.

Subject Specific Excursions

Mount Teide

Emblem of the Canary Islands and without a doubt Tenerife's most spectacular natural feature, Mount Teide dominates practically the whole of Tenerife's centre and can be seen from virtually anywhere; the peak is often snow-capped and can be seen from the beach!

Catamaran Cruise

The Nashira Uno is a custom built motor catamaran. The design of the vessel is such that it reduces the possibility of sea-sickness therefore allowing those with weaker "sea legs" to join in on the excursions. She has a sun deck as well as a lower shaded deck and also has two glass bottomed panels that allow the guests to marvel at the amount of marine life.

Casa bioclimatica & Piramides de Guimar

Spain is well ahead of the UK in the use of renewable energies and this is demonstrated at Tenerife’s ITER centre where a range of architecturally extraordinary houses have been constructed using the latest approaches to sustainability. Stroll along a technological walkway to learn about the different kinds of renewable energies, then discover more about a green future for our environment at ITER’s visitor centre.

Cuevas del Viento

The Cabildo Insular de Tenerife (Tenerife Island Government), through the Organismo Autónomo de Museos y Centros (OAMC - museums), has been gradually clearing part of the Cueva del Viento in Icod de los Vinos, one of the longest volcanic tunnels in the world. 18 km of underground passages require special protection to guarantee the conservation of their natural values, while receiving small groups of guided tours. A natural attraction unique to Tenerife.

Los Gigantes

This resort town in the Santiago del Teide town on the west coast of Tenerife has been designed and constructed to blend in with the surroundings. Students can study the natural coastlines and how the pressures of tourism have affected the area.
