recommended educational trips for New York

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

Discover the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Museum via ferry, where your students will enjoy magnificent close-up views of the Statue of Liberty and take in what was once the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the United States whilst viewing mid and lower Manhattan from a different perspective.

9/11 Memorial and Museum

Observe the largest manmade waterfalls in North America, built in memorial to the events of 9/11. The twin reflecting pools are nearly an acre in size each and built into the footprint of where the iconic Twin Towers once stood. (There is a small administration charge for this excursion as advance visitor passes must be obtained).

One World Observatory

The focal point of the Lower Manhattan skyline, the One World Observatory can be found on top of the One World Trade Center, otherwise known as the Freedom Tower, built in response to the 9/11 terror attacks that brought down the twin towers. Boasting breathtaking panoramic views of New York City, the One World Observatory undoubtedly offers one of the best views of Lower Manhattan. Students can also learn about how the skyscraper was constructed and the meaning the building has to the city at Global Welcome Center.

Broadway Show

No trip to Manhattan is complete without experiencing the bright delights of a New York Broadway Show. From timeless classics such as Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera to modern favourites such as Wicked and Mean Girls, there are a wide variety of performances to inspire your students. For many, a Broadway Show is the highlight of their trip. Speak to your Travel Advisor for details of what’s on offer at the time of your school trip to New York.

Spirit of New York Student Dinner Cruise

A Spirit cruise is the perfect way to enjoy spectacular panoramic skyline views of the city of New York in a fun and safe environment and includes a freshly prepared buffet, dance floor, DJ and on board games. The cruise route offers views of the Empire State Building, One World Trade Centre, the Statue of Liberty, Battery Park, Ellis Island, Governors Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge.

Grand Central Station Walking Tour

Grand Central Station is one of the most recognisable train terminals in the world, perhaps because it has been in so many movie scenes! A guided walking tour will educate your group about the creation, evolution and restoration of this iconic terminal. Stopping off at the many murals, architectural treasures, a secret platform and the Whispering Gallery; famed for its acoustic properties – this tour will definitely not disappoint.

Madame Tussauds

Combine the glitter and glamour of the world’s most famous faces with an interactive educational experience at Madame Tussauds. Located in Times Square, this safe and climate controlled activity is perfect for the day or early evening. Enhance your experience by adding a Behind the Scenes, Business & Marketing or The French Revolution seminar to your itinerary for a small cost.

Macy's Department Store Tour

Discover the history of Macy's, one of America’s leading department stores, and learn about merchandise placement & marketing with a talk in the visitor centre followed by a tour of the store.

Shopping Down 5th Avenue

Stretching from Greenwich Village to Harlem, cutting through the centre of Manhattan, 5th Avenue is considered to be one of the most famous streets in New York City and boasts a vast array of shops – from high-end designer outlets to mass clothing brands. Spend a morning or afternoon here, browsing the shops, which include the likes of Abercrombie & Fitch, Nike, Tiffany & Co., Apple, H&M and MAC Cosmetics.

Walking Tour of the Financial District

Explore lower Manhattan with this scenic walking tour, in an area home to the New York Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Empire State Building

Enjoy the spectacular views from the Empire State Building's 86th Floor Observation Deck. NEW for 2019 - explore brand new galleries with interactive exhibitions about the construction of the building, the fascinating engineering behind the elevators and even a HD multi media animation featuring King Kong!

Yankee Stadium

Located in the Bronx and home to both the New York Yankees (a major league American baseball team) and New York City FC (an American major league soccer team), this stadium was re-built in 2006 and sits one block North of the original site, which is now a public park called Heritage Field.

TV/Movie Tour

New York TV and Movie Tour

The New York TV & Movie Sites guided tour will lead you to over 40 of NYC's famous filming locations in TV and films! Students can see where the cast of Glee performed "I Love New York" and visit the apartment building from Friends.

Take the "Super Tour" and visit some of the many locations that have been featured in iconic super-hero films such as Batman, Spiderman and The Avengers.

Top of the Rock

Climb to the top of the Rockefeller centre and take in the dramatic and stunning panoramic views of New York City from the 259 metre high observation deck.

The MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York plays a fundamental role in the collecting and development of modern art. Housing a mind boggling collection of almost 200,000 pieces of artwork, your art students will certainly find some inspiration here. Famous art pieces on exhibition here include The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, Campbell’s Soup Cans by Andy Warhol and The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali.

Tenement Museum

The Tenement Museum shares the stories of immigrants, migrants and refugees that have arrived in the U.S in pursuit of the “American Dream” and have contributed to the creation of the United States as we know it today. The museum offers a variety of immersive guided tours, educational content and programmes geared towards school groups.

United Nations Guided Tour

A guided tour of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City is a great way for your students to learn more about how the UN works and its contributions to world order. A guided tour will show your group around significant points of the headquarters including the various Council Chambers and the General Assembly Hall.

Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim is a prestigious art museum, famed for its spiralling staircase, which enables visitors to view artworks from a different perspective. The museum houses a wide selection of works from world famous artists including Vincent Van Gogh, Franz Marc and Vasily Kandinsky.
